Confidence restored.

That’s how the U.S. Women’s National Team looks as it now heads south to San Diego for the semifinals of the CONCACAF W Gold Cup. There, the U.S. will face neighbor and rival Canada at Snapdragon Stadium on Wednesday evening for a place in the final.

It took just minutes in the USWNT’s 3-0 quarterfinal win over Colombia to look dangerous in the attack, and in the 10th minute, Alex Morgan drew a penalty kick. By the 22nd minute, the USWNT had a brace and they had their third before the halftime whistle.

It was also a bright sign for the U.S. that some of the young prospects for the future stepped up to help secure victory. 23-year-old centerback Naomi Girma sent a 50-yard free kick into the box that was deflected to 23-year-old left back Jenna Nighswonger, who tucked it in to the bottom right corner. And then it was 19-year-old Jaedyn Shaw who had the determination and energy to be first to the ball on a cross into the middle to score.

Now, the U.S. faces a formidable opponent in Canada. Les Rouges have scored 14 goals through four games and haven’t allowed a single goal on their end. Adriana Leon leads all scorers in the competition with five goals and a team full of in-form players.

All of this sets up what should be a thrilling matchup between the U.S. and Canada and The Sporting News is on hand to bring you all the information you need to follow the match.

USA vs Canada lineups & team news

USWNT interim coach Twila Kilgore has some huge decisions to make ahead of Wednesday evening’s match. Kilgore made six changes coming off the defeat to Mexico, bringing in Nighswonger, Shaw, Alex Morgan, Korbin Albert, Naomi Girma, and Tierna Davidson into the lineup.

On paper, it would make sense to return the likes of Sophia Smith, Rose Lavelle, and Abby Dahlkemper among others to the lineup against a higher quality opponent. But the most recent XI got the team to the semifinals, and Kilgore could be forgiven for trusting them again.

USA predicted starting lineup (4-3-3) right to left: Naeher (GK) — Fox, Girma, Dahlkemper, Davidson — Horan (C), Coffey, Lavelle — Rodman, Smith, Shaw.

USA bench: TBD

Canada needed extra time to knock off Costa Rica in the quarterfinals, meaning that tired legs could play an impact here. Star forward Jordan Huitema only played 45 minutes in the win, so if fit, she should be ready to go. Adriana Leon was also substituted just moments after scoring the game-winner, to save her legs for the semifinals.

Canada predicted starting lineup (3-4-3) right to left: Sheridan (GK) — Zadorsky, Gilles, Buchanan — Lawrence, Quinn, Fleming (C), Carle — Leon, Huitema, Lacasse

Canada bench: TBD
